Some Fishing Methods

Illegal Fish Blasting

Fish Farming
Fish Trap
Beach Seining / Drag Netting
Beach seining or drag netting is normally carried out using a length of net and an additional length of warp (rope). The net and warp are laid out from, and back to, the shore and retrieved by hauling on to the shore. The net used is similar to that used for set-netting. Mullet, flatfish, snapper, trevally and crabs are caught this way.
Pure Seining
Purse seining is used to catch surface dwelling species such as tuna, mackerels, kahawai and trevally. Aerial spotter planes are usually used to locate the intended catch. The purse seine net is laid in a circle around the school . The net is then "pursed", drawing the bottom closed and entrapping the fish. Purse seining cannot be used by recreational fishers.
Other Trawler
It uses one powered fishing boat with two otter boards which are used to open the mouth of the fishing net, and marine fish species are to be caught by towing the fishing net. The fishing net is placed under the hauling trough at the ship's stern before getting ready for setting. A small lifer at the stern is used to hang the bag into the ocean, then the boat drives forward slowly when the seawater slide the flank net, belly net and sleeve net in order into the ocean through the slipping way. When the whole fishing net is set in the sea, the two otter boards hung at the two sides of the stern will be loosened and drifting steel wire, branch steel wire and towing steel wire will be slowly released to the sea. Normally, two towing steel wires are to be released in parallel with fast speed. The net length is 3 to 4 times of the water depth and is set at a speed of 3 knots, and takes about three hours in the towing operation.

Bull Trawler
It uses two powered fishing boats (without using otter boards to open the net mouth) to tow a fishing net so as to catch marine fish species. By using a pulley at the stern, the master boat move the fishing net and plunge it into the water.

At this time, the auxiliary fishing boat will get close to the master boat and it will take 15-20 minutes for the master boat to deliver another ends of the towing steel wire to the auxiliary boat fixing, then the fishing net is setting, then the two boats drives as apart as possible, to begin the towing operation. The distance between the two boats is about 400 meters, with the towing speed about 2.5 knots and it takes about 2-3 hours of towing time. Then connecting the net , the two boats gradually get closer, the auxiliary boat will throw the towing steel wire back to the master boat, and it takes about 30 minutes for the master boat to wrench back the fishing net with rope rolling gear.

Drifting Gill Net
The fishing method of Gill net is to place a net in the sea like a fence shape of to sever the current and have shoals of fish come to prick themselves to the net or tangle with the net before being caught. The net is drifting with the tide and current so it is called Drifting Gill Net.

Long Line Fishing
The fishing tackle is composed of a main line with separating branch lines and hundreds of hooks below it.

It usually spreads over the sea stretching out tens of nautical miles (one nautical mile equals to 1.852 kilometer), in distance, and is assuming the largest scale fishing tackle.

Pole and Lines
It is a fishing tackle using one pole to tie one or several hooks. It is utilized to catch marine fishes.
